Gourd Art - Gourd Vases, Bowls and Other Gourd Art

A collection of gourd art including vases and other collectibles

These are some of my more recent gourds that I have made that don't fall into other categories. Each gourd is unique, one of a kind and make great gifts.

I use a variety of mediums on my gourds including water based and alcohol inks, metallic and opaque acrylic paints.

I enjoy experimenting with different themes and use a variety of gourd shapes. Sometimes I have an idea in mind and find a gourd to fit the bill or I have a gourd and then figure out what it will be.

I hope you enjoy viewing my gourds as much as I do making them!

"Purple Haze"

I am a child of the 60's who grew up with Jimmy Hendrix. When I finished this gourd I was trying to come up with some regal name with purple in it and all that kept popping into my head was Purple Haze. So, here it is. The gourd was sponge painted to create texture using several shades of Generation Green Shimmer Translucent including Amethyst, bronze and a soft gold. I used some coordinating satin ribbon and beads to pull out the Amethyst color of the shimmer and provide some contrast.

Autumn Leaves gourd was made using Memories ink dyes and blended to capture the firey colors of fall. Another view of the autuma leaves gourd.

"Autumn Leaves"

I grew up in New England and just about the best thing you can say about it is the spectacular Fall Foliage. Every year in October, we would drive through the country side to enjoy the quiet bliss of the quiet country roads and wonderful colors of the leaves. Soon others found out about our little secret and the quiet country roads were filled with cars leaf-peeping. This gourd was inspired by the magnificent fiery colors of autumn in New England. The leaves were first hand sketched and then burned. The gourd and leaves colored with Acrylic Pigment & Dye inks and sealed with a satin finish.
